The application from this term-objective to the city, obtains with the improvement of the habitability and the quality of life for the citizens, who depend on social and economic factors, and environmental conditions. The city of Valencia, works in the attainment of these objectives, the protection and maintenance of its natural, urban and cultural patrimony.
The commitment acquired by the City council of Valencia with the conservation of this patrimony, has made it to make diverse environmental performances like the performing of projects with purposes of optimizing the power management and improving in addition the quality to its transport services, so within the parameters of operation economy, a contribution to the improvement of the environmental, atmospheric and acoustic quality is obtained, with the intention of preserving the historical districts, spaces public and buildings.
From 1996 the City council and the Transport Municipal Company of Valencia, which manages the urban buses, have experimented with the use of new energies as they are the biofuel, natural gas or the electricity in the propulsion of their vehicles.
In this context, with the environmental preoccupation and the search of a more "sustainable" transport, a project has started up on the collection and used vegetal oil generated by kitchen, and its transformation into biofuel, to use in the urban buses of the city: project ECOBUS.
